About Compassion

Compassion & Choices of Oregon incorporated in 1997 as Compassion in Dying of Oregon and is now an affiliate of Compassion & Choices.

Compassion’s mission is to be a comprehensive resource for Oregon families as they make end-of-life decisions and plan for a caring, gentle and/or spiritual death according to their own values and beliefs. We are accomplishing our mission by providing terminally ill, mentally competent adults with a network of professionals, who inform, educate and counsel them on the broad range of end-of-life options. In fulfilling our mission we complement the implementation of The Oregon Death with Dignity Act by ensuring all qualified Oregonians with safe and responsible access to use the Act.

Compassion’s volunteer team and staff include clergy, mental health professionals, attorneys, physicians, hospice nurses, palliative care specialists, and others experienced in dealing with terminally ill patients, their families and caregivers. Through our experience we have developed an extensive database of community resources. We have access to professionals who provide terminally ill Oregonians the support they need to face the end of life with dignity.

Compassion & Choices of Oregon needs people like you to volunteer your time and service, to stay abreast of our important work, and to join our community of persons concerned for the welfare of persons at the end of life.

Consider volunteering your time. Are you a medical or social work professional? We provide complete training and an engaged team-driven approach to providing informational and instructional services to persons at the end of life. Are you a public speaker? We need volunteers to carry our message to all corners of Oregon. Are you an office helper? We have tasks galore.

Get involved – make a difference. We need your help. Call today at 503-525-1956 or send an email to Marina@compassionoforegon.org
